about

The poems in this collection are an improvisational response to four traditional Christmas carols from England and the United States that date between 1818 and 1906. ‘Chaos Carols’ form part of a longstanding musical exploration between Tim Arnold and violinist Jonathan Hill and is the forth official release in their collaborative journey which to date, comprises of three albums and two E.P’s.

The recurring lyrical theme of humanity and technology in Arnold’s solo albums also features as a main theme of these poems, most notably in ‘Free of Need’ and 'Hold Love’.

‘The Cry of Maybe’ and ‘Silence for The Rightist’ explore a view of the future inspired by the ideas of futurist Robert Anton Wilson and scientist David Bohm, respectively.

The creative process behind Chaos Carols consists of Hill’s faithful recordings of rare arrangements of the carols that were sent to Arnold, who employed a writing method called ‘lyric looping’ – an improvisational spoken word response to the music, created automatically without preparation, on the first listening. Arnold listened to each piece of music for several hours until each poem was completed.

We hope you enjoy Chaos Carols!
