about

After recording his 20th solo album in the first Lockdown of 2020, Tim decided to begin socially distant live gigs from his back garden. The shows were named ‘Salon No. 9’ after the number of people that could legally fit into the space. Eventually the shows moved to clubs in Soho with an increased capacity. Each show was a journey through Tim’s career to date.

‘Tales From The Tracks’ is an autobiographical live album recorded between Lockdowns in London, 2020. The songs were recorded in the garden at Tim’s home, The Groucho Club and Quo Vadis in Soho and ‘Birthplace of The Kinks’ - The Clissold Arms in Muswell Hill.

All 29 tracks are a blend of songs and spoken word stories about the songs and have been selected from recordings of all six of Tim’s post-pandemic live shows in 2020. The spoken word charts Tim’s Britpop days, rehab in a Buddhist monastery and recovery from addiction in Thailand, his study of ancient Thai methods of making music by using patterns in the Earth, returning to London to conceive The Soho Hobo album and Save Soho, working with Iggy Pop and Lindsay Kemp, the creation of his diversity project ‘What Love Would Want’ and sharing the background to the songs on his latest album recorded on Lockdown ‘When Staying Alive’s The Latest Craze’.

Tim says “In World War 2, The Windmill Theatre never closed. My grandparents played the halls with Max Miller during The Blitz. It’s part of my heritage to keep entertaining people in a crisis”

“Every time a new rule came in, it was challenging, but challenges are the norm for independent artists. Once you’ve established safety measures into the staging of the show for the audience, the third spirit can unfold between us and them. The spirit of creativity, community and connection.”
