about

Tim’s 18th studio album was written and recorded during a 5-month period of travel between London, Spain, Los Angeles and Toronto. The 10-track album was forms part of a tryptic of albums that begins with 2017’s ‘I Am for You’. Tim plays all instruments on the album with the exception of drums by Montreal artist Alexy Guerer and Toronto based dancer Kiyo Asaoka who contributed Flamenco percussion to the opening song ‘About You’, also featuring samples of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by UK virtuoso Jonathan Hill.

The album was mixed by Ben Pelchat at Kensington Sound in Toronto and produced by Tim and Ben. Exclusively available on this website from the 3rd July 2018.

1. About You

Written in Spain at Tim’s mother’s home in December 2017. A document of all the cities travelled by Tim over the last 18 months. The singer compares the wonder of all those cities to meeting someone.

2. Hope Is Like the Sun

Written almost word for word as a diary entry of Tim’s first ever trip to Los Angeles in January 2018. During his stay in LA, almost all the songs for the album were written, resulting in the idea that there might be an album in it. This was written whilst walking from Venice Beach to Santa Monica. The line ‘Hope Is Like the Sun’ was inspired by the script from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Carrie Fisher’s character Princess Leia is purported to have said. “Hope is like the sun, if you only believe in it when you see it, you’ll never make it through the night.”

3. I'm An Open Book

Written whilst wandering the streets of Kensington Market in Toronto, December 2017 on a break from the studio. Note the mention of the Robin Williams movie ‘Hook’ is not the only reference to Peter Pan on this album.

4. Happy Thought

‘Happy Thought’ comes from J.M Barrie’s story of Peter Pan. A ‘Happy Thought’ is what Peter uses to fly. Original quote:

'You just think lovely wonderful thoughts, Peter explained, and they lift you up in the air.' J. M Barrie
